How much does a solar PV system cost in Ireland?
A typical domestic system runs from about €4,950 for 4kW up to roughly €9,500 for 8kW with a battery, before the SEAI grant. Commercial installations are quoted per project because the return depends entirely on your daytime consumption. Every quote we issue is fixed and includes scaffolding, cabling, commissioning and the grant paperwork.

How much will I actually save each year?
Most households we fit save between €1,100 and €1,900 a year. The figure depends on how much electricity you use during daylight, whether you have a battery, and your unit rate. Our calculator on this page gives a realistic estimate in about ten seconds, and the site survey refines it against your own bills.

What is the payback period?
Five to seven years is typical for a domestic system after the grant, and three to five years for a business with strong daytime demand. Panels are warranted for 25 years, so you are looking at roughly two decades of effectively free generation after the system has paid for itself.

Do I get paid for the electricity I export?
Yes. Under the Clean Export Guarantee your supplier pays for surplus units you send back to the grid, currently around 18–20 cent per unit depending on the supplier. It is worth having, but using your own generation is worth considerably more than exporting it — which is the argument for a battery.

Does solar add value to my property?
It improves your BER rating, which is what most buyers and lenders look at. A solar array with a battery typically lifts a home by one BER band, and several lenders now offer reduced green mortgage rates at B3 and above.

How much is the SEAI solar grant?
Up to €1,800 for domestic installations: €700 per kW for the first 2kW and €200 per kW up to 4kW. Your home must have been built and occupied before 2021, and the work must be carried out by an SEAI-registered installer — which we are.

Do you handle the grant application?
Yes, start to finish. We register the works, arrange the mandatory BER assessment, and file the post-works declaration. The grant is deducted from your final invoice, so you never have to pay it up front and wait for a refund.

Do I need planning permission?
For the vast majority of homes, no. Since 2022 rooftop solar is exempt from planning permission for houses with no cap on roof area. Protected structures, architectural conservation areas and some apartment blocks are the exceptions — we check before quoting.

Does solar actually work in Ireland?
It does. Ireland gets similar annual irradiance to central Germany, which has one of the largest installed solar bases in the world. Panels need daylight rather than direct sun, so they generate on overcast days too — just at a lower rate.

Which direction does my roof need to face?
South is ideal, but east and west both work well — often better for households out during the middle of the day, because an east–west split spreads generation across morning and evening. Due north is the only orientation we will usually advise against.

Do I need a battery?
Not necessarily, but it changes the economics for most homes. Without one you export your cheapest electricity and buy it back at peak rates in the evening. A battery typically lifts self-consumption from around 45% to over 80%. If the house is occupied during the day, the case is weaker.

What happens during a power cut?
A standard system shuts down for safety, so it will not run your house in an outage. If that matters to you, we can fit a battery with a backup circuit that keeps essentials — fridge, lights, broadband, boiler — running for several hours.

How long does installation take?
A domestic install is normally a single day: scaffold in the morning, panels and inverter fitted, system commissioned and tested, everything cleared away by the evening. Larger commercial arrays run from a few days to a few weeks and are scheduled around your trading hours.

Will the panels damage my roof?
No. Mounting brackets fix to the rafters and tiles are refitted around them, so the roof covering stays watertight. Our installers are roof-trained, we survey the structure before committing, and our workmanship guarantee covers the roof for ten years.

What maintenance do panels need?
Very little. Irish rain does most of the cleaning. We recommend a performance check every couple of years to catch string faults, inverter errors and bird nesting early — issues that quietly cost you output long before anything visibly breaks.
